From the labyrinthine alleys of Stone Town to the powdery white beaches of the north, this Tanzanian archipelago offers an intoxicating blend of history, culture, and pure tropical bliss. Stone Town: A Journey Through Time

Our adventure began in Stone Town, a UNESCO World Heritage site and the beating heart of Zanzibar. Walking its narrow, winding streets feels like stepping back in time, with ancient doors, bustling markets, and a palpable sense of history. Be prepared to get lost – it’s part of the charm!

The Old Fort (Ngome Kongwe): A historic fortification that often hosts cultural events and has a small amphitheater. Entry to walk around is generally free, though specific events may have a ticket price.
Anglican Cathedral & Former Slave Market Museum: A profound and moving experience. The cathedral stands on the site of the former slave market, and the museum vividly recounts the harrowing history of the East African slave trade. An absolute must-visit for historical context. Entry fee is approximately 10 USD per person.
Freddie Mercury House: For Queen fans, a quick stop at the alleged birthplace of Freddie Mercury is a fun photo op. It’s mostly a souvenir shop now, with no formal entry fee to visit the exterior.
House of Wonders (Beit al-Ajaib): Currently undergoing extensive restoration after a partial collapse. While you can admire its grandeur from afar, it’s not open for visitors at the moment.

Kendwa Rocks Full Moon Party: If your trip coincides with the full moon, this legendary party at Kendwa Rocks Hotel is a must-attend. Live music, bonfires, and a lively crowd. Entry fees vary but are usually around 10-20 USD.
Beach Bars: Nungwi and Kendwa have numerous beachfront bars where you can enjoy cocktails, music, and the ocean breeze well into the night.

Getting Around: Transfers & Transport

Airport (ZNZ) to Stone Town: A private taxi will cost approximately 15-20 USD. Agree on the price before starting your journey.
Stone Town to Northern Beaches (Nungwi/Kendwa): A private taxi costs around 50-60 USD. The journey takes about 1.5-2 hours.
Stone Town to Southeast Beaches (Paje/Jambiani): Expect to pay around 40-50 USD for a private taxi.
Daladalas: These are local public mini-buses and the cheapest way to travel (approximately 0.5-2 USD per trip). They are crowded, slow, and follow fixed routes but offer a truly authentic local experience. Not recommended for airport transfers with luggage.

Best Time to Visit: The dry seasons are ideal: July to September and December to February. Expect sunny skies and pleasant temperatures. Avoid the long rainy season (March-May) and short rainy season (November).
Currency: The local currency is the Tanzanian Shilling (TZS), but US Dollars are widely accepted for tours, hotels, and larger purchases. It’s good to have small notes in both currencies. ATMs are available in Stone Town.
